Inside a Modern Mahjong Factory: 5 Lines, 3,600 m², 240,000 Sets a Year
A floor-by-floor tour of a specialized American mahjong factory in Guangdong — the equipment, the people and the throughput behind 240,000 sets a year.
Why Factories Specialize
Generalist factories make acceptable products; specialist factories make consistent ones. Everything in our 3,600 m² facility in Taishan, Guangdong exists to produce mahjong sets and dice — which is why a reorder 18 months later matches the original shipment in color, weight and engraving depth. Board game buyers underestimate how much brand equity lives in that sentence.
The Five Lines
Raw acrylic is compounded and precision-cut to spec. High-precision laser engraving cells cut symbols with uniform depth — verified tile by tile. Automated infilling and painting machines apply color consistently at a rate hands cannot match. Multi-stage polishing brings every tile to a mirror finish. And final assembly pairs tiles with racks, pushers and packaging, kitted to each program's BOM.
Quality Control as a Line, Not a Desk
QC staff sit inside each line — one to three per line during production — performing incoming material inspection, in-process dimensional checks and finished-set audits under standardized lighting. Wear-resistance testing samples every batch. The rule our buyers care about: nothing packs until it matches the approved sample.
The Numbers Buyers Ask For
Five production lines. 51-100 staff with dedicated QC roles. 240,000 sets annual capacity, peaking to 400,000. About 31 days standard lead time. OEM, ODM and private-label programs from 50 sets. Sixty percent of production ships to North America — which is why our default spec assumes NMJL sizing and American retail packaging standards.
